LIVINGSTON STREET CAPTURES THE "RIDE THE RAIL" STAKES - THIRD WIN IN A ROW!

05/23/09 HOUSE

Livingston Street accomplished a triple feet when he won the "Ride The Rails" Stakes on Saturday 5/23/09.
   1. It was his first stakes win.
   2. It was the first stakes win for his owners, Teresa and Jim Remez.
   3. It was the first stakes winner produced by his sire Mr. Livingston.

Livingston Street broke well from the gate and settled back into last going into the first turn. Saving ground, Manny Cruz rode him with total confidence  and let him settle back off a very fast pace. Going into the second turn, Livingston Street was still 10 lengths back. Manny Cruz showed tremendous patience waiting until the quarter  pole before asking Livingston Street for his big run. After saving ground to the quarter pole, Manny swung Livingston Street out to the middle of the track and unleashed a furious run down the stretch. After being bumped and steadied at the 1/8 pole, Livingston Street accelerated again and won by 3/4.

After winning his first three races on the turf, Livingston Street won his first dirt race and did it in a Stakes race. He has now shown the versatility he inherited from his sire Mr. Livingston.

Congradulatons to Teresa and Jim Remez on their first Stakes win.

Congradulations to Teresa and David Palmer on Mr. Livingston's first Stakes winner.

Livingston Street up late

By Mike Welsch

Livingston Street proved he is anything but a one-dimensional horse when he ralllied from last over a sloppy, speed-favoring track to register a three-quarter-length victory over Powerchord in the $55,000 Ride the Rails Stakes at Calder.

Livingston Street was the fourth winner on the day for jockey Manoel Cruz. The meet's leading jockey, Cruz also rode Jabbok to an apparent victory in the finale for what would have been his 2,000th career win only to be disqualified for inadvertently striking the runner-up, Deisel Power, with his stick at midstretch.

Livingston Street ($8.40), whose three previous victories had come on the turf, unleashed a powerful rally leaving the backstretch after lagging at the rear of the pack for the opening five furlongs of the one mile and 70-yard Ride the Rails. Livingston Street continued full of run out in the middle of the strip once settling into the stretch before wearing down Powerchord in the final 40 yards. Powerchord also raced unhurried off the early pace of Sayers, moved strongly around the second turn to wrest control in early stretch before proving no match for the winner. Miles and Miles, the tepid 2-1 favorite, raced forwardly throughout before finishing another length further back in third.

Livingston Street, a 3-year-old son of Mr. Livingston, is trained by Bill Kaplan for owners James and Teresa Remez.
